NEWS FLASH 2022

As the Costume Production Manager on this show I was part of a creative team that produced an Olivier award winning Family Opera.

I am so proud of our combined achievement - HOORAY!!!

My story

Sew Better began life as 'Sew Whitstable' in 2013.

At Sew Better

my focus is helping the learner to grow in confidence whilst honing the key skills that are needed to make a garment not just good enough but something that the maker would be proud to wear and can learn from.

Previous to this I worked for many years in the costume industry making garments for film, TV and theatre crossing all periods. Working with experienced designers and makers I learned from the best and understood the importance of accuracy, authenticity and attention to detail. I also learned some essential tricks of the trade which I build in to my teaching too.

Sew Better is a continuation of the above whilst meeting the demand for bespoke sewing workshops in N.East Kent.

Did you know that SEWING has health benefits? Indeed joining any kind of group that provides positive social interaction and learning opportunities does that.

At a community monthly sewing meet we have been supporting charitable causes too.

Our ventures have included supporting the 100 mile walk home created by the Haig Housing Trust last year 2018.

.".... fundraising pilgrimage to mark 100 years since the ending of World War One. The charity will take 100 Veterans walkers from across the UK to Ypres, Belgium where they will then walk the 100 miles from the Menem Gate to the Cenotaph in Whitehall, timing this to coincide with the National Service of Remembrance on Sunday 11th November."

We were able to welcome the walkers in at the 100 mile marker (St Barnabus Church) in Boughton High Street with refreshments and encouragement. I managed to sew some of our own poppies onto a few back packs!! We were thrilled that the volunteers took with them a piece of commemorative embroidery with them to lay at the cenotaph on Rememberance Sunday (two days later).
